What is graphic design?

Graphic design is the art of creating effective visual messages. Suppose you want to announce or sell something, amuse or persuade someone, explain a complicated system or demonstrate a process. How will you do it? Often, it will be easiest to reach broad audiences with visual communication.

Graphic design can use color, type, images and white space in all different mediums. A designer can use these elements to tailor a layout that effectively creates the desired response in your viewer. A great design will get you attention, tell people important things about you, and make it easy for your viewer to remember you. Conversely, poor design may not only keep your message from coming across, it can actually hurt the viewer’s impression of you.
